Having completed his clarinet studies, Xavier Marquis began learning the bassoon with Jean-Louis Ollé at the Conservatory of Lille, graduating in 2011. He then joined the Haute Ecole de Musique de Genève and studied under Alfonso Venturieri (Orchestre de la Suisse Romande), where he also discovered the baroque bassoon.
In 2012, he decided to focus exclusively on performing on historical instruments at the Centre of Early Music of Geneva. Under Lorenz Alpert (Concerto Köln) he specializes in XVII and XVIII century repertoires on the dulzaina and the baroque bassoon, but also on the older repertoires on the shawm, the bombard and the recorder.
He also plays with Maurice Klezmer and JuneBug and Storytellers where he performs different styles of traditional European music (klezmer, Bulgarian music, Ireland music).
